Antietam Creek Canoe - Upper Section Map, from Funkstown to Devil's Backbone This map is pretty accurate in terms of miles and features. The scale is something else again.

OF SERIOUS NOTE . Make sure you scout Wagaman Road Bridge and Poffenbarger Road Bridge by car on the way to the put-in. They each have and will have strainers
(trees and debris trapped across one or more arches of the bridge) that can be extremely dangerous for novice boaters. Experienced boaters have had difficulty here as well. Numerous "just below surface" rocks and gremlins tend to knock boats off what looks like pretty straight forward lines, and into the strainers.

4th upper map.bmp (640486 bytes) This is a thumb. Just give it a click and it gets pretty big

The take-out is on river right just above the dam. Be careful of the banks.

Please do not run the dam.  The dam is fragile; running it is guaranteed to Irritate the fishermen, park users and local folks. In addition to probable injury, It could easily lead to paddling restrictions in the park. If you want to paddle down to our parking lot, carry around the dam on either side and put in just below. Take out on river right just after the stone bridge and you'll be in our yard, 30 feet from your car.
